My name is Megan Talbott. This is my 22nd year teaching second grade. Previously I have taught first and third grades. I received my undergraduate biology degree from Smith College and my Master's in Education from the University of Colorado at Denver.
While at UCD, I focused on literacy instruction. I published an article in the Spring 2002 edition of the Colorado Reading Council Journal titled "Promoting Voice in Children's Writing." I love to read and write and you will find that literacy is one of the central themes of our classroom. You will also find a focus on developing strong math strategies while having fun, as well as a love for the natural world, learning science with a scientific eye, and an appreciation for other cultures.
I spent two years (1996-1998) in the Solomon Islands as an educator in the Peace Corps. While there, I started two libraries, worked with women's groups and did health education about malaria and women's health issues. I also made some wonderful friends and learned a lot about a culture quite different from America's. Both of my children have ended up with names from the Solomon Islands. If you would like to find out more about the Solomons, try visiting these links.

Solomon Islands Photographs
In addition to seeing much of our own country, I have traveled to the Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Canada. I speak fluent Pijin (the language of the Solomon Islands), some Spanish, and a little French. My travels have heightened my appreciation of diversity and you will find that diversity is encouraged and respected in our classroom.
I love science and also serve as the Science Lead for all K-5 classrooms in our district. Science is about questioning and finding out answers. We love to delve into all kinds of interesting science topics in our classroom, and we find science eveywhere!
In my free time you might find me playing with my children, reading, hiking, gardening, or cooking something exotic. I love Thai and Indian food and the smells that go along with those foods.
